04 FAQ

Before you install.

Straight answers about the things people check before letting an app near their desktop.

01When can I get it?
Soon. DeskSplit is in beta now. Leave your email on the Coming soon page and you'll get one email when it's ready.
02Will Windows warn me when I install it?
DeskSplit isn't out yet, but here's the heads-up: SmartScreen flags apps that aren't code-signed, and early builds may not be. If you see “Windows protected your PC,” click More info, then Run anyway. It only appears on first install, and signing is planned before 1.0.

03Where do my desktop icons go?
Nowhere. Icons under the shelf on the right are hidden beneath it, not moved or deleted. Shrink the shelf and they're back.
04Does it survive Win+D?
Yes. The shelf is part of the desktop, so Show Desktop shows it with everything else.
05Can I point it at any folder?
Yes. Right-click a folder in Explorer and choose Set DeskSplit folder, or paste a path into the bar.
06How do Save dialogs find it?
DeskSplit pins its folder to Quick access, so it sits in the sidebar of every Open and Save dialog.
07Do I need admin rights?
No. It installs and runs under your user account.
08How do updates work?
Silently, in the background. If you want to check by hand, Settings → Check for Updates answers inline.
09What will it cost?
$15, one time. No tiers, no subscription.
10Which Windows versions?
Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.
